At Friday Nights in Ferndale we are often dealing with deep theological truths in a short amount of time. We try and supplement those theological truths with notes and additional links that flesh out these truths a little more thoroughly. We would also like to recommend the following books that we hope will encourage you as you seek to know more about Jesus Christ and what it means to follow Him.

Bible Doctrine: Essential Teachings of the Christian Faith– Wayne Grudem- Bible Doctrine takes a highly commended upper-level textbook on systematic theology and makes it accessible to the average reader. Abridged from Wayne Grudem’s award-winning Systematic Theology, Bible Doctrine covers the same essentials of the faith, giving  you a firm grasp on seven key topics: The Doctrine of the Word of God, The Doctrine of  God, The Doctrine of Man, The Doctrine of Christ, The Doctrine of the Application of  Redemption, The Doctrine of the Church, and The Doctrine of the Future.

Vintage Jesus: Timeless Answers to Timeless Questions-  Mark Driscoll- Some two thousand years after he walked the earth, Jesus Christ is still a hot topic. And for all the ridiculous, twisted, Da Vinci Code-esque conspiracy theories and lies about Jesus that have permeated popular culture and even the academy over the years, the truth about his character, nature, and work has not changed. So what exactly is the truth about Jesus Christ? Mark Driscoll and Dr. Gerry Breshears tackle that subject in this engaging and helpful book.

The Christian Life– Sinclair Ferguson- Christian doctrine matters for Christian living. This is one of the most important growth points of the Christian life, writes Sinclair B. Ferguson. From this starting point, The Christian Life expounds such key biblical themes as grace, faith, repentance, new birth and assurance with clarity and contagious enthusiasm. Christian doctrines are life-shaping, explains the author, because they show us the God we worship.  It is theology that is practical, applying Bible teaching with insight and wisdom to the condition of plain people.

Cross Centered Life: Keeping the Gospel the Main Thing– CJ Mahaney- Remember Jesus Christ? Although it seems almost too obvious, the center of our faith is surprisingly easy to forget. C.J. Mahaney shows how to overcome our tendency to move on from the gospel of grace. Finding joy in the gospel — whose promises allow us to escape condemnation whenever it attacks — helps us avoid the prevalent trap of legalism. With practical suggestions, Mahaney demonstrates the difference between knowing the gospel… and making it the main thing in daily decisions and daily living.
