Friday Nights In Ferndale 06/12/09- Faith In Your New Birth

We would love to have you join us Friday, June 12th, at 244 Berding Street in Ferndale for an evening of community, friendship, challenging Biblical teaching and discussion, prayer for one another, and some zinging (and I mean that in a good way) coffee. Dinner/coffee time begins at 6:00.

For our teaching/discussion time (starting around 7:00 pm), we will tune in once again to the Trial: 8 Witnesses from 1&2 Peter series from Mars Hill Church in Seattle. This week we’ll be looking at 2 Peter 1:5-15. This section of Scripture builds on Peter’s opening remarks (justification and regeneration, which we discussed last week). In response to God’s grace, Christians work together with God–not for our salvation but rather so that we will experience and enjoy the fullness of the salvation that has already been given to us.

Childcare will be available during the sermon and prayer time.

Friday Nights in Ferndale 05/29/09- Humble Christians

We would love to have you join us Friday, May 29th, at 244 Berding Street in Ferndale for an evening of community, friendship, challenging Biblical teaching and discussion, prayer for one another, and some delicious coffee (we hope that last week’s coffee drought will only be a one week hiccup!). Dinner/coffee time begins at 6:00.

 

For our teaching/discussion time (starting around 7:00 pm), we will tune in once again to the Trial: 8 Witnesses from 1&2 Peter series from Mars Hill Church in Seattle. This week we’ll be looking at 1 Peter 5:1-5. In this video sermon, entitled “Humble Christians,” we learn that humility is central to the life of an obedient Christian. God came to earth as Jesus- in a humble state- showing grace and patience with his people. The Bible calls Christians similarly to imitate their Lord and shed their pride. As John Calvin said, “If you ask me concerning the precepts of the Christian religion, first, second, and third, and always I would answer, ‘Humility.’”

Friday Nights in Ferndale 05/15/09- Humble Pastors

We’d love to have you join us Friday, May 15th, at 244 Berding Street in Ferndale for another evening of community, friendship, challenging Biblical teaching and discussion, prayer for one another, and some delicious coffee. Dinner/coffee time begins at 6:00.

 

For our teaching/discussion time (starting around 7:00 pm), we will return to the Trial: 8 Witnesses from 1&2 Peter series from Mars Hill Church in Seattle. This week we’ll be looking at 1 Peter 5:1-5. In this video sermon, entitled “Humble Pastors,” Pastor Mark Driscoll preaches about the necessity for all pastors to be filled with humility. Pride is one of the most dangerous traits for a pastor to have. Pastors who are not proud, and not humble, don’t image Jesus the way they need to to lead the people the way Jesus would have them to.

Friday Nights in Ferndale- 01/16/09

Community is counter-intuitive to Western culture, but mandatory to a life of faith. Yet when most Christians think about growing in their faith, they sometimes leave out one of the most important means that God has provided; our friendships! God unites us to Christ but also places us within a community of faith where we influence one another in profound ways.

In his sermon “Your Walk With God Is A Community Project” Dr. Paul Tripp addresses fundamental issues that will help us grow in grace, wisdom, forgiveness, servant-hood, communication, and conflict. These lifestyle character qualities are essential if marriages, friendships, and churches are going to thrive. 

One thing will be different about this week at Friday Nights in Ferndale: the sermon is audio only. We were not able to get video of this particular sermon, but thought that it was so valuable that we’re going to trust our ears to keep us occupied. We really hope that this week and next week’s teaching will help spur us on to engage in deep, genuine, and biblical community at Friday Nights in Ferndale.

Friday Nights In Ferndale- 01/09/09

Hi everyone! Hope you have all had a splendid week. I’m looking forward to hanging out with you guys this Friday and enjoying our time together. This week we will be hearing from a new (to us) preacher named Francis Chan. Francis is a pastor at Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California and also the founder of Eternity Bible College. We’ll be watching a sermon he preached on Galatians 5:16-26 called ”Grace To Become Who We Want To Be.”

Violent Grace

God’s grace isn’t always comfortable because he isn’t primarily working on our comfort; he’s working on our character. With violent grace he will crush us because he loves us and is committed to our restoration, deliverance, and refinement. And that is something worth celebrating.
